PATUM THANI – A devastating incident unfolded this Tuesday afternoon when a 67-year-old woman, known as Dang, was brutally attacked and killed by her sister's pit bull terrier while riding her bicycle nearby.
The tragedy occurred around 3 PM in the tambon Chiang Rak Noi area of Sam Khok district when the 2-year-old male pit bull managed to escape from its cage. Witnesses reported hearing a commotion as the dog lunged at Dang, leaving her severely injured and unconscious on the ground.
Rescue teams, alerted by concerned neighbors, arrived to find Dang in critical condition with multiple dog bite wounds. Despite urgent first aid efforts, she failed to respond and was sadly pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Dang's son, Thawee, recounted the horrifying moment when he first learned of the attack.
Hearing his aunt's frantic cries for help, he rushed outside to find his mother on the ground, bleeding extensively. In a desperate attempt to save her, he carried her roughly 600 meters to a safer location, calling out for assistance as he went. A nearby resident managed to contact emergency services for help.
The dog's owner, Kiatkanok, is identified as Dang's sister.
She explained that the pit bull, named Poi Kai, had been raised by her and her daughter since it was a puppy. Unfortunately, the dog had shown signs of increasing aggression and had reportedly attacked both Kiatkanok's daughter and a neighbor in the past. In light of the recent attack, she expressed her willingness to surrender the dog to any agency equipped to handle its aggression.
As authorities begin their investigation, police have stated that charges will be filed against Kiatkanok.
This raises questions about pet ownership responsibilities and the potential dangers posed by such breeds.
This tragic incident highlights the growing concerns about dog attacks and the need for enhanced safety measures for both pets and the public. With the rise in reported dog attacks, many are left wondering: how can we ensure our communities remain safe from aggressive animals?
