In a shocking twist, Singaporean actor Tay Ping Hui has taken to social media to warn his followers about a fraudulent AI-generated video that misappropriates his likeness to promote a dubious diabetes medication.

On August 22, the beloved 54-year-old star expressed his concerns in an Instagram post: "It has come to my attention that my image has been used in fake AI marketing videos." He even shared snippets of the misleading content.

Flattery or Frustration?

While Tay acknowledged the absurdity of the situation, noting, "I am flattered that they thought using my image would give their scam more credibility," he didn't shy away from expressing his anger. "But at the same time, I am pretty pissed at how lazy they were." He further criticized the quality of the video, saying, "At least they could have made the two shots more legit; it looked nothing like me! Not to mention the repetitive footage for different parts of the talk – it’s just unprofessional."

A Cautionary Tale for Followers

With nearly 90,000 followers, Tay urged his fans not to engage with the video or purchase anything from the scammers. Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, he shared that this incident marked his first encounter with AI being used to create misleading content featuring him.

Impersonation Woes

This isn't the first time Tay has faced digital impersonation. Previously, fans alerted him about someone using his name and photos to deceive followers on Instagram. He clarified that he only manages one verified account, complete with the blue tick.

In an unsettling reveal, a 77-year-old woman nearly fell victim to the scam. Upon stumbling across the fake video on Facebook, she quickly ordered two boxes of the fraudulent product for $99. Thankfully, she opted for cash on delivery, a decision that spared her financial loss as the expected delivery date was just days away.
