Swiss Post to Close Notime Due to Low Demand

In a bold move, Swiss Post has announced the impending closure of its notime subsidiary following disappointing demand for same-day parcel delivery services. This decision will take effect at the end of September 2025.

Reasons Behind the Closure

The decision hinges on extensive evaluations, as Swiss Post and notime explored various strategies to turn the service profitable. Johannes Cramer, head of logistics at Swiss Post, expressed, "Despite analyzing different pricing and cost structures, the high fixed costs have made maintaining a same-day specialist unfeasible. The service has remained a niche offering with little indication that demand will improve."

A Struggle Since Inception

Launched in 2018, notime was designed to provide same-day delivery in Swiss urban areas. Unfortunately, it never gained traction, with few customers willing to pay for this premium service. Swiss Post confirms that they will reach out to nearly 20 business clients who relied on notime for expedited deliveries.

Impact on Employment

With this closure, approximately 143 full-time jobs in German and Western Switzerland are expected to be lost. Cramer acknowledged the challenges of these changes, assuring affected employees that Swiss Post is committed to providing substantial support during this transition.

Looking Forward: Support for Affected Employees

Swiss Post plans to work closely with social partners to formulate a redundancy plan for those unable to stay on after the shutdown. A consultation process will remain active until May 30, 2025, allowing notime staff to propose ways to minimize job cuts and mitigate adverse impacts.
