Unforgettable Celebration at River Hongbao 2025

Prepare for an unforgettable celebration as River Hongbao 2025 kicks off with an explosive welcome on January 27, at Gardens by the Bay! Sixty dazzling strands of firecrackers will ignite the night sky at 8 PM, marking Singapore's 60th anniversary of independence while ushering in the Year of the Snake, which commences just two days later on January 29.

A Time-Honored Tradition

A time-honored tradition since 1987, River Hongbao has evolved into one of Singapore's largest and most beloved Chinese New Year celebrations, with over 1.01 million attendees recorded in the previous year. This year, the festivities will run from January 27 to February 5, promising ten unforgettable nights of cultural richness and vibrant festivities.

Celebrating Culture and Unity

Mr. Thomas Chua, the chairman of the organizing committee and president of the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), shared the event's purpose during a recent media preview. He emphasized how the celebration focuses on preserving and promoting Chinese culture while fostering a spirit of joy and unity among the diverse population. As we honor SG60, the festivities will pay tribute to our nation's progress and aspirations for a brighter future.

Highlights of the Festival

Among the highlights are two grand SG60-themed lantern displays that will be showcased alongside a total of 28 dazzling lantern sets. One display, titled "The Lion City," reflects Singapore's remarkable journey, portraying a majestic replica of the Merdeka lion that once graced the Merdeka Bridge in Kallang. It symbolizes freedom and unity, alongside a tribute to the legendary prince Sang Nila Utama, who named our beloved island "Singapura," or "Lion City." Accompanied by a stylized skyline, this enchanting display will reignite the spirit of hope and resilience through energetic lion dance performances.

The second lantern display, dubbed "Joyful Years Ahead," invites attendees to reminisce about cherished community moments, bringing back memories of the iconic lion head roller coaster from Wonderland Amusement Park in the '60s and '70s. Additionally, a traditional steamboat pot will feature, representing the heartwarming rituals of reunion dinners during Chinese New Year. Expect familiar elements like firecrackers and mahjong that capture the essence of the festive atmosphere!

More Than Lantern Displays

River Hongbao 2025 promises more than just lantern displays. Attendees can enjoy the perennial favorite God of Fortune lantern, an enticing food street, thrilling amusement rides, and interactive onsite and online games. The nightly performances will include local talents and renowned artists from The Wind from Yunnan troupe, known for their captivating cultural displays.

Exhibition: Greetings from Afar

A unique exhibition titled "Greetings from Afar: Chinese Remittance Letters" will delve into the rich history of letters sent by early Chinese migrants, revealing emotional and personal stories that tie them to the past. This collaboration between the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and Fujian Provincial Archives of China emphasizes the legacy of our ancestors' journeys.

Event Schedule and Admission

The festivities will run from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM on January 27, and from 6:30 PM to 12:15 AM the following day. From January 29 to February 5, the celebration will welcome visitors from 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM. Best of all, admission is FREE!

Floral Display at Flower Dome

Adding even more magic to River Hongbao 2025, a stunning floral display at the Flower Dome will feature a breathtaking 4.5-meter tall floral sculpture of Madam White Snake, inspired by a renowned Chinese legend. Themed "Spring Blossoms," this display will enchant visitors with over 1,000 dahlias, symbolizing prosperity and new beginnings.
