Get ready, space enthusiasts! SpaceX is soaring towards an incredible milestone—surpassing 100 launches from the Space Coast in 2025! With No. 70 successfully completed this past Sunday, they have just four months left to reach this monumental target.
The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off on the Starlink 10-14 mission carrying 28 satellites at precisely 7:49 a.m. from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station's Space Launch Complex 40. Notably, the first-stage booster achieved its 23rd flight and made a triumphant landing on the recovery ship, Just Read the Instructions.
August has been a whirlwind month for the Space Coast, featuring nine launches—eight by SpaceX and one by United Launch Alliance (ULA). Among the highlights were the final crewed mission of the year from Florida, Crew-11, which launched on August 1, and the classified return of Boeing's X-37B mini space shuttle. ULA also fired up its Vulcan rocket for its inaugural national security mission.
Just last Thursday, SpaceX's fleet-leading booster made history, embarking on its 30th journey to space with yet another successful landing. And there’s no sign of slowing down! With two more launches lined up this week, including Starlink missions, SpaceX is gearing up for an even busier September.
Mark your calendars! A Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to launch a resupply mission with Northrop Grumman's Cygnus spacecraft to the International Space Station on September 15, followed by a science mission loaded with payloads for NOAA and NASA set for no earlier than September 23.
This year alone, SpaceX has been responsible for all but four of the 74 orbital launches from the Space Coast, making headway towards breaking the record of 93 launches from last year. The pace is accelerating, and with 72 launches already in 2023, Space Launch Delta 45—the authority overseeing the Eastern Range—has indicated potential support for up to 156 launches annually.
While hitting that number may be a stretch, ULA is also stepping up its game after three successful launches this year, with plans for at least five more Atlas V launches in the pipeline. Their next mission, targeting September 25, involves sending 27 satellites for Amazon’s Project Kuiper, a direct competitor to SpaceX's Starlink.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin also made headlines with the debut of their New Glenn rocket in January and is eyeing a NASA mission to Mars by September 29.
In addition to the impressive 38 operational missions launched from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base, SpaceX is eagerly awaiting approval for two additional Starship launch sites on the Space Coast that could ramp up to 120 launches per year! And let’s not forget their ongoing operations with Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.
So buckle up, folks! The countdown to more groundbreaking launches continues, and the future of space exploration is looking brighter than ever!
