Last December, beloved actress Sora Ma bravely shared the heartbreaking news of her husband, known only as Mr. R, passing away in June. As she navigates this profound loss, she is also joyfully raising their son, Skye, who was born just two months after her husband's death.
Though the 41-year-old Malaysian star has faced incredible challenges, she recently gave fans a peek into her life during an episode of Mediacorp's #JustSwipeLah. The show featured her colorful new home, a loving tribute to both her and Mr. R’s shared interests.
In a recent Instagram post, Sora invited her audience into her living room, showcasing treasured items including a shoe cabinet and Mr. R’s cherished vinyl collection. "Welcome to our little sanctuary. This space is filled with love, stories, and character, featuring our cozy living room and my husband’s proud display wall—plus a surprise cameo from baby Skye!" she shared, teasing a follow-up tour.
However, the actress’s cheerful demeanor sparked unwanted attention. Some netizens criticized her for appearing too happy so soon after her husband’s passing. Ignoring negativity, Sora addressed the comments head-on in her Instagram stories, saying, "I also wish to know if I am really very happy? Or am I simply trying my best to live my days to the fullest? Maybe I’m just trying to fake it until I make it one day."
In response to further critiques suggesting she wasn’t sad enough, she revealed her truth: "I don’t need your pity. Why should I express my sadness for you to see? I choose to heal alone." Sora emphasized that rather than inviting communal sorrow, she’s focusing on her own healing process.
Adding fuel to the fire, earlier this month, Sora celebrated becoming a Singapore citizen on her 41st birthday, January 22. Though this was a significant milestone, it also drew negative remarks from naysayers questioning her decisions.
Sora gracefully brushed off the hate, clarifying, "I don’t feel like there’s anything worth boasting about either." Following this, many fans rallied to her side, expressing their support and sympathy. One expression read, "Live a happy life," while another pointed out that it’s the haters who need to reflect on their actions.
Sora Ma’s tenacity in the face of adversity is inspiring, proving that while grief is a personal journey, joy and healing can coexist.
