Skyworth Enters Singapore Market

SINGAPORE - Get ready, Singapore! The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Skyworth has officially entered the market, launching its first showroom in Ubi on January 7. This exciting expansion into Southeast Asia comes as the company aims to make waves in the competitive EV landscape.

State-of-the-Art Showroom

The state-of-the-art showroom spans 2,000 square feet and is located at 20 Ubi Road 4, showcasing up to four vehicles at a time. Alongside the showroom, there's a dedicated workshop for servicing and maintaining Skyworth vehicles, ensuring customers have comprehensive support post-purchase.

Introducing the K Electric SUV

Kicking off its operations, Skyworth has introduced the K, a sleek electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), comparable in size to the popular Toyota Harrier. The K comes equipped with a robust 150 kilowatt (kW) motor and features an impressive 86-kilowatt-hour battery, enabling it to travel up to 489 kilometers on a single charge. At its launch, the K is priced at $183,888, which includes a Category B certificate of entitlement (COE) and applicable discounts, presenting a competitive alternative to the Toyota Harrier hybrid, which starts at $248,888 (COE included).

Market Timing and Investments

With sky-high demand for electric vehicles in Singapore, the strategic timing of Skyworth's entry couldn't be better. Mr. Keith Pang, director of the Alpine Group, which serves as the local agent for Skyworth, revealed in a recent interview that the establishment of the showroom is the result of a $500,000 investment. Notably, no plans are in motion for a lower-powered version of the K, which would qualify for a Category A COE, keeping the focus on its existing powerful model.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Skyworth plans to launch an electric crossover by June 2025, designed to rival models like the MG 4 EV and Volkswagen Golf. Additionally, an electric van is slated to hit the shelves in the last quarter of 2025, poised to compete against other emerging Chinese brands such as BYD and Maxus. This diversification is a clear indication of Skyworth's commitment to establishing itself as a key player within the Singapore EV market.

Former Dealer Location

The company's presence at 20 Ubi Road 4 was formerly occupied by Think One, a dealer of commercial and parallel-imported vehicles. Talks are underway for Think One to invest in the Skyworth distributorship, reflecting a growing interest in the EV sector.

Company Background

Based in Nanjing, about 300 kilometers northwest of Shanghai, Skyworth has been manufacturing electric vehicles since 2017 and has a subsidiary, Nanjing Golden Dragon, specializing in bus manufacturing. The company is part of the broader Skyworth Group, which has been a major player in the technology sector since its establishment in Shenzhen in 1988.

Conclusion

As Skyworth opens its doors to Singaporean customers, it’s clear that the landscape of electric vehicles in the region is about to get even more electrifying. Stay tuned for what this innovative brand will bring to the streets!
