Inspirational Fight Against a Rare Disorder

In other news, meet Francesca Lim, a brave 17-year-old who has been courageously battling Methylmalonic Acidemia (MMA), a rare and challenging genetic disorder, since her diagnosis at just four months old. This condition hinders the body's ability to properly metabolize proteins, leading to potentially life-threatening complications.

Francesca is one of only seven individuals living with MMA in Singapore. Experts point out that this rare disorder often goes misdiagnosed as doctors initially look for more common illnesses, delaying crucial treatment at critical life stages.

Her story underscores the urgent need for improved newborn screening protocols to better identify such disorders early, ensuring timely intervention.
