In a groundbreaking move for electric vehicle (EV) drivers, City Energy has launched Singapore's first-ever charging network that eliminates the need for an app, making charging as simple as plugging in your phone!
With this innovative auto-charging system, developed based on the open standard called AutoCharge, drivers can recharge their EVs at five key locations across Singapore: Pullman Singapore Hill Street, Klimt Cairnhill, Komo Shoppes, North Gaia, and North Park Residences. City Energy has grand plans, growing its network to 248 charging points by 2028.
Perry Ong, CEO of City Energy, emphasized their mission: "Our aim has always been simple – to make EV charging feel as natural and convenient as charging your phone." This commitment is reflected in their $100 million investment to install more charging points, focusing on both residential and commercial areas by 2030.
A major perk? City Energy has teamed up with JomCharge, allowing registered users to charge their EVs even while driving in Malaysia, with over 200 AutoCharge-enabled stations in hotspots like Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang.
The AutoCharge system tackles a common frustration for EV owners—managing multiple apps for different charging networks and dealing with connectivity issues, especially in underground parking garages. Unlike traditional vehicles, EV drivers have previously been burdened with logging into apps and scanning QR codes to begin charging.
Now, once registered, users can simply plug in their vehicles and start charging—no apps, no QR codes, no hassle! As Mr. Ong states, "With AutoCharge, EV drivers only need to register their vehicle once on our app (City Energy Go) and then just plug in to power up."
The transition is seamless; family members can also charge the vehicle, as the system requires no app for operation. Additionally, users will receive push notifications when their vehicle is fully charged, making it even more convenient.
Compatible EV brands include household names like Tesla, BYD, and MG, with plans to increase compatibility with more automakers. This remarkable development is set to revolutionize the driving experience for EV owners in Singapore!
