SINGAPORE – In an impressive stride towards sustainability
Singapore has successfully installed over 15,300 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the island, marking a significant milestone in its ambitious plan to reach 60,000 chargers by the year 2030. As of September, the latest figures reveal an increase of approximately 1,500 charging points since August, showcasing a rapid expansion of EV infrastructure.
New EV Guide Released
The newly released EV guide from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), dated November 4, indicates that around 7,100 of the existing charging stations are publicly accessible. The remaining chargers are situated in private locations, predominantly within condominiums. This strategic placement illustrates the government’s commitment to accommodating both public and private EV users.
Charging Types and Future Plans
While most public charging points are designed as slow chargers ideal for overnight use, the LTA has outlined plans to incorporate fast chargers into the public network. These fast chargers promise a substantial advantage, enabling users to replenish their EV batteries from 20% to 80% in just one hour, a drastic reduction compared to several hours required by standard slow chargers.
Unveiling New Charging Infrastructure
At the unveiling event of new public fast chargers on November 4 at the Woodlands Civic Centre, Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor announced the first of a new batch of rapid charging stations. She elaborated that by March 2025, eight additional commercial car parks owned by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) will also be equipped with these fast chargers.
