Singapore Expands Humanitarian Efforts for Gaza with Latest Aid Package

SINGAPORE: In a significant move to assist those in need, Singapore has delivered its sixth tranche of humanitarian aid to Gaza, amounting to approximately S$1.3 million (US$1 million), as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, January 22.

To date, Singapore's contributions to the Palestinian enclave have surpassed S$19 million, reflecting the nation's commitment to humanitarian causes in the region.

The most recent aid package, facilitated by the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation (RLAF), included S$851,000 allocated to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation and S$435,000 directed to UNICEF. This generous support underscores Singapore's proactive role in addressing urgent humanitarian needs.

Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Maliki Osman, participated in the aid handover ceremony in Jordan, where he reaffirmed the “deep and enduring friendship” between Singapore and Jordan. This strong bilateral relationship has been pivotal in coordinating efforts to deliver critical aid to Gaza.

During the event, Dr. Maliki expressed hope that the ongoing ceasefire and the agreement for hostage returns between Israel and Hamas would pave the way for increased humanitarian aid to reach those suffering in Gaza. He expressed gratitude to the RLAF for spearheading fundraising initiatives in Singapore aimed at supporting humanitarian operations in the area.

“Singapore will continue to explore ways to support humanitarian and relief efforts in partnership with our regional partners,” he stated, emphasizing the nation’s ongoing commitment to providing assistance.

Additionally, plans are in motion for Singapore to send an air shipment of humanitarian supplies to Gaza, in collaboration with Jordan. This logistical support aims to address the critical shortages of food, medical supplies, and other essential items exacerbated by the ongoing conflict.

Dr. Maliki reiterated Singapore's steadfast belief in a two-state solution, asserting it as the sole path toward a “comprehensive, just, and durable solution” to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As the situation develops, the international community is urged to remain engaged and supportive, ensuring that humanitarian needs are prioritized amidst the crisis.

In light of these efforts, Singapore’s humanitarian initiatives not only provide immediate relief but also strengthen international partnerships in face of global challenges.
