Singapore's Latest Humanitarian Aid

In a significant move to bolster humanitarian efforts in Gaza, Singapore has delivered its fifth tranche of aid, raising its total contributions to approximately S$18 million (around US$13.6 million) since the escalation of conflict began. This latest aid package was officially handed over by Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister for Social and Family Development, Masagos Zulkifli, on November 1.

The Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation (RLAF), which has been at the forefront of fundraising initiatives, contributed S$700,000 from its ongoing campaign to support UNICEF's critical humanitarian relief operations. Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has pledged a US$200,000 contribution to the RLAF, further showcasing Singapore's dedicated commitment to supporting those in need in Gaza.

A Continued Commitment to Humanitarian Support

The RLAF's fundraising efforts are set to continue until December 13, with all remaining funds earmarked for distribution to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation and Humanity Matters, both of which play vital roles in delivering aid. Since the conflict ignited on October 7, 2023, the Singaporean government, alongside local NGOs, has partnered with countries including Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and Cyprus to facilitate these donations.

This recent delivery marks a continuation of Singapore’s proactive approach to humanitarian assistance, following the previous rounds of aid delivered earlier in the year, including a notable airdrop in March.

Calls for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Access

In a statement reflecting Singapore’s humanitarian stance, the MFA reiterated the importance of an immediate ceasefire and called for the unconditional and safe release of all hostages. Furthermore, they urged all involved parties to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches civilians in Gaza without hindrance.

The ongoing support from Singapore underscores the nation’s commitment to advocating for peace and stability in the region, as well as its readiness to collaborate with key international partners like UNICEF and various UN agencies to ensure timely aid delivery.

As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, Singapore’s efforts are a beacon of hope, and the international community is urged to join hands in providing necessary support to those in dire need. The situation remains critical, and every contribution counts in alleviating the suffering of the affected populations.
