In a bizarre turn of events in Singapore, a woman has confessed to taking the fall for her male colleague after a reckless driving incident that left a traffic light pole mangled. 31-year-old Chin Wei Yeeng has pleaded guilty to obstructing justice, in a case that raises serious questions about accountability and morality.

The incident unfolded on February 16, 2024, following a night out with colleagues at a local restaurant. Chin and her colleague, 36-year-old Yuen Zheng Wen, spent the evening dining and drinking together, with Yuen indulging in three or four glasses of wine while Chin only had one.

As they left the restaurant, Yuen offered to drive Chin home. However, after making a turn onto the Central Expressway, he lost control of his car, veering off the road and crashing into a traffic light pole. Rather than facing the music, Chin suggested an audacious plan: she would take the blame for the accident.

In a shocking display of loyalty, she proposed switching seats with Yuen to deceive the police. When officers arrived at the scene, Chin insisted she was the one behind the wheel and had consumed only one glass of wine. Yuen backed her story, fully aware it was a lie.

Their deception soon unraveled when a breathalyser test revealed Chin had 49 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, well above the legal limit of 35. Surprisingly, the officers initially believed Chin's claim about being the driver and didn’t administer a test on Yuen, allowing him to slip away.

Feeling a pang of guilt, Yuen later turned himself in, confessing to the truth about that night. Both individuals are set to learn their fate on May 16, following their guilty pleas.

This case not only exposes the pitfalls of reckless behavior after drinking but also highlights the troubling decisions some might make to protect their friends.
