Shocking Scandal: Idol's Husband in Deep Trouble for Multi-Million Fraud!

In a shocking turn of events, Ahn Sung Hyun, the husband of beloved first-generation idol and actress Sung Yuri, has found himself entangled in a serious legal battle. Reports surfaced on October 31, revealing that the professional golfer is facing possible prison time related to a massive fraud scheme involving the solicitation of tens of billions of won, all under the guise of launching a virtual currency.

During a tense sentencing hearing held on October 29 at the Seoul Southern District Court, prosecutors did not hold back their demands; they argued for a staggering seven-year prison sentence for Ahn. They also sought a hefty fine of ₩2.00 billion (around $1.45 million USD), along with the confiscation of luxury watches and a surcharge amounting to ₩1.50 billion (approximately $1.09 million USD).

But Ahn isn’t alone in this fiasco. Lee Sang Joon, the CEO of Bithumb Holdings, is also facing charges alongside him. The prosecution is pushing for a five-year sentence for Lee and demanding the confiscation of ₩30.5 million (roughly $22,100 USD) along with a ₩1.525 billion surcharge.

The case takes a darker twist as Ahn and Lee are accused of colluding with Kang Jong Hyun, known for his controversial history as the ex-boyfriend of actress Park Min Young. The trio reportedly accepted tens of billions of won from Kang between September and November 2021, allegedly in exchange for promises to list a particular virtual currency referred to as 'coin A' on the Bithumb Exchange. The prosecutors claim that they received ₩3 billion in cash alongside luxury watches valued at ₩400 million (about $290,000 USD) and a high-end restaurant membership estimated at ₩11.5 million (around $8,340 USD), all from Kang and Song, an official associated with the coin issuing company.

In a separate charge, Ahn is also accused of deceiving Kang and embezzling an additional ₩2.00 billion (again, about $1.45 million USD) under the Specific Economic Crimes Aggravation Act. This shocking revelation not only tarnishes the image of Ahn but also raises questions about the rampant issues of fraud in the cryptocurrency sector.

Ahn and Lee were previously sent to trial without detention in September of last year. As the legal proceedings unfold, the Supreme Court is slated to render its final sentencing decision on December 26.

As this scandal develops, fans and observers are left shaken, wondering how one of Korea’s beloved celebrities could be involved in such a serious crime. Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding drama that has captivated the nation!
