In a chilling turn of events, a 59-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a deceased individual in a flat on Boon Lay Avenue. Abdul Rani Bin Md Ariffin faced the State Courts via video link on Thursday, March 13, just two days after the incident that claimed his brother's life.

The victim, Abdul Rahman Mohamad Ariffin, aged 57, was found unresponsive at around 4 a.m. in a unit located in Block 187 Boon Lay Avenue. The specifics of how the murder was carried out have not been disclosed, but the police confirm that the two men were related—brothers, to be exact.

As the prosecution moved forward, they requested Abdul Rani be remanded for a thorough medical and psychiatric assessment. This evaluation aims to determine whether he suffers from any mental impairment that could affect his responsibility for the alleged crime. When given an opportunity to speak through a Malay interpreter, Abdul Rani chose to remain silent and did not contest the psychiatric evaluation.

Due to the serious nature of the charges brought against him, the judge agreed to the prosecution's request. Abdul Rani is expected to return to court on April 3 for further proceedings.

The police were notified of the incident around 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday, leading to a swift investigation. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the victim lying motionless inside the 11th-floor flat, and he was declared dead at the scene. The area was secured, and a body bag was seen being carefully removed from the premises.

Eyewitnesses reported that the unit where the tragedy unfolded housed two men and two women, though neighbors stated they heard nothing unusual prior to the incident. One witness recalled seeing a man seated on a stool, appearing distressed and with his hands cuffed behind his back.
