Transport Ministry Unveils Troubling Traffic Offenders

In a bold move to enhance road safety and curb accidents linked to heavy vehicles, Malaysia's Transport Ministry has revealed a damning list of companies notorious for their overdue traffic summonses.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke disclosed at a press conference that 11 goods vehicle companies are drowning in more than 1,000 overdue summonses each! But that's not all—17 express bus companies are also in hot water, each with over 200 overdue citations. Loke did not shy away from mentioning that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Urgent Warning: Companies on Thin Ice!

The Minister issued a stern ultimatum: these companies have just 14 days to clear their summonses, or they will face immediate blacklisting. "We want a shift in the road culture. We cannot afford another tragedy like the recent bus incident that claimed so many lives," Loke stated emphatically.

Highlighting the top offences, he revealed that for goods vehicle companies, the most common infractions include technical issues like faulty brakes and tyres, driving without a licence, overweight vehicles, and even speeding.

A Call for Change—And Community Help!

But it’s not just about penalties; the Ministry is ready to support these companies in complying with road safety regulations. Loke emphasized the importance of training drivers to adopt a safer driving culture.

In a proactive step, he encouraged the public to participate in ensuring road safety. If you witness reckless driving, share videos online! Just ensure they include a clear view of the vehicle's license plate, the company name, and the incident's date and location.

No More Tragedies—Action Will Be Taken!

Upon receiving such videos, the Ministry promises swift investigations. They'll request the GPS data from companies to confirm violations, ensuring action is taken against any offenders.

Loke’s strong message rings clear: drastic measures are necessary to prevent further accidents. He urged everyone to remember the tragic bus accident involving Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students, where 15 lives were lost when a bus overturned, underscoring the urgent need for change on Malaysian roads.

A Plea to the Public—Let’s Work Together!

"We don’t want a repeat of such tragedies. Let this be a wake-up call to everyone—companies and the public alike—to take road safety seriously!" Loke concluded.
