Shocking Incident Near Kitchener Road: Four Men Charged for Harassing Policeman at Murder Scene!

2024-09-25

SINGAPORE –

A startling incident unfolded early on September 22, as four men were charged for allegedly harassing and verbally abusing a police officer at a murder scene near Kitchener Road. The police have indicated that this case is severe, highlighting a growing concern over disrespect toward law enforcement.

The Accused

The men—Md Dino Marciano Abdul Wahab, 44, Alex Kumar Gnanasekaran, 37, Mohamed Eusof Mohamed Yahiya, 32, and Mohanan V Balakrishnan, 38—faced two preliminary charges each: one for public nuisance and another for harassment on September 25. They have expressed intentions to engage legal representation, and additional charges may follow as investigations continue.

This shocking episode came to light when the group stumbled upon a cordoned-off area designated as a crime scene by authorities following a violent brawl earlier that morning. The chaos erupted near Kim San Leng Eating House on Verdun Road, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man and injuries to another young man.

The Prime Suspect and Additional Arrests

In connection with the brawl, the police have charged 22-year-old Muhammad Sajid Saleem with murder. Astonishingly, five others face charges related to rioting with a deadly weapon while participating in an unlawful assembly.

During the disturbance, Sergeant Wayne Lim Chee Kiat, who was stationed at the crime scene, became the target of the men’s tauntings, while one of them filmed the repugnant encounter. The situation intensified as the group became increasingly agitated, with comments flying that belittled the officer’s authority and mocked the seriousness of the crime scene.

Caught on Video!

Footage of the incident surfaced on social media, showing Alex daring Sergeant Lim by stating, 'You want to talk like (a) gangster? I can show you 100 percent pure gangster.' Dino's mockery grew to the point where he jeered, 'You talked like (a) gangster, you know, we all scared, you know,' while laughter erupted from the group, showcasing a troubling disregard for law enforcement in a tense situation.

Eusof attempted to diffuse the situation by leading his friends away, adding fuel to the fire with a quip directed at the officer, insinuating that Sergeant Lim would break down in tears.

Legal Consequences

In a decisive response, authorities identified the group swiftly and made arrests the following day. Their case has been adjourned with a scheduled court appearance set for October 8, during which outcomes of the ongoing investigations will be discussed.

A Firm Stand Against Abuse of Authority

The police have made it clear that such conduct will not be tolerated. A spokesperson stated, 'We do not condone any abuse towards officers fulfilling their duties. We will take all necessary actions against those who show hostility towards law enforcement.'

Violators of public nuisance laws can face imprisonment of up to three months and/or fines up to $2,000, while those found guilty of verbally assaulting public servants could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and/or fines reaching $5,000.

As the story continues to develop, it raises poignant questions about respect for authority and safety within the community. This incident serves as a critical reminder of the continual challenges faced by law enforcement officers in executing their duties amidst rising tensions.
