Shocking Assault at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu: Twelve Students Detained!
In a disturbing incident that has left the campus community shaken, twelve students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) have been detained for questioning following the alleged brutal assault of a fellow student. The shocking event took place in the early hours of Sunday at the UMT Male Residential College, as reported by Buletin TV3.
The victim, a 21-year-old accounting student, suffered serious injuries and described a horrific attack in which he was beaten, strangled, kicked, punched, and even struck with a blunt object. Authorities have seized a wooden stick believed to have been used during the assault as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin provided some insights into the incident, stating that the initial investigations indicate it could be linked to accusations made against the victim involving behaviors deemed unacceptable. 'The fight may have been triggered by accusations against the victim involving conduct contrary to human norms, but I won’t specify the allegations,' he remarked, raising concerns about the underlying issues affecting student dynamics at the university.
Fortunately, medical reports indicated that while the victim suffered multiple bruises, he did not sustain any internal injuries or fractures. He has since been placed under observation at the hospital after being taken there by his concerned parents from Melaka.
In a thorough investigative process, the police conducted urine tests on all twelve suspects, all of which returned negative results for drugs, indicating that substance abuse was not a factor in this tragic incident.
This alarming case has sparked dialogues on campus safety and the mental health of students in higher education institutions, reminding everyone of the critical importance of conflict resolution and awareness of one’s environment. The case is currently being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.
Stay tuned as we continue to follow this developing story and provide more updates on the implications this incident may have on student life at UMT and beyond.
