Big Changes at Taste Orchard
SINGAPORE – In a stunning twist for local shoppers, Hao Corp’s lease for its vibrant grocery and food hall, Taste Orchard, has been terminated by OG just 18 months after its grand opening.
Vacate by Year-End!
The beloved Hao Mart and its sub-tenants, including the popular Sushiro sushi chain and Killiney Kopitiam, must vacate the premises at Orchard Point by December 31.
No Explanation Provided
Letters sent to the tenants on September 12, signed by Hao Mart's senior VP Jupri Suep, delivered the shocking news without any explanation. Tenants are required to leave their units in pristine condition and return all fixtures by the deadline.
Surprising Turn of Events
This abrupt lease termination is particularly surprising, given that units were still listed for rent just a few months ago in July. The lease was originally set for a lengthy 7½ years, with over 155,000 square feet of retail space.
Challenges Ahead for Hao Corp
Hao Corp had envisioned a flourishing future when it took over three floors of the building, revitalizing it after OG closed its doors in October 2022. However, challenges mounted as they recently scaled back operations, relocating non-food items from a prized basement space.
Empty Spaces and Inactive Outlets
The mall has been struggling, with numerous vacant units across several levels as some food and beverage outlets, like BHC Chicken, have also shuttered, leaving shoppers uncertain about Taste Orchard’s future.
Hao Mart's Ambitious Overhaul
Initially launched in 2016, Hao Mart was designed as a supermarket chain to compete in Singapore’s bustling retail market. The company had ambitious plans for the Taste Orchard concept but now finds itself at a crossroads, capable of raising eyebrows and questions about the viability of its operations.
A Glimpse into the Future
As of now, Hao Corp's future plans remain uncertain, but the retail landscape is ever-evolving. Will they pivot or will this be the end of the road for Hao Mart at Taste Orchard?
