SINGAPORE –

Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng is eager to retain his role in representing the Braddell Heights ward as the next general election looms. Reflecting on his nearly two-decade tenure, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community he has grown fond of.

"I love this place... You develop a relationship with the place, with the people," said Mr. Seah, who is currently in his fourth term as an MP for Marine Parade GRC. As the boundaries have recently shifted, his constituency is now designated as Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.

With Nomination Day approaching, Seah emphasized the uncertainty of the electoral process, stating that, "nothing is certain until Nomination Day." His remarks came during a community event at the Braddell Heights Community Hub on March 29, which focused on educating residents about the critical issue of online and phone scams.

At the event, Mr. Seah updated residents on exciting upcoming developments, including the opening of the new Serangoon Polyclinic—the largest of its kind in Singapore—set to debut by the end of 2025. He also mentioned upgrades to the Braddell Heights Community Club, expected to be completed by May, and the revitalization of the Serangoon Market, which will introduce a new study center when it opens in October.

"Our aim is to enhance Braddell Heights, making it a better home for everyone," he remarked passionately to attendees. The event buzzed with interaction; many residents approached him for handshakes and photos, extending their best wishes for the forthcoming election.

Mr. Seah has cultivated deep connections within the community, noting that the understanding that he has positively impacted their lives fuels his commitment to continue his work. While acknowledging that there will invariably be a minority of dissenters, he maintained that overall, residents have shown their support.

Entering politics with the People's Action Party (PAP) in 2006, Seah solidified his position when he was appointed Speaker of Parliament in August 2023 following the resignation of Tan Chuan-Jin amid controversy. When questioned about the PAP’s candidate lineup for the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC, he stated that details would soon be revealed, but he highlighted that the selection is based on the demographics of the ward, which notably has a senior population of over 20 percent—exceeding the national average of 17 percent.

With an eye on the future and community well-being, Seah Kian Peng's commitment to Braddell Heights underscores his passion for serving the residents, making him a formidable candidate as the elections draw closer.
