Johor Police Launch Investigation into Spa Fraud
In a shocking turn of events, the Johor police have confirmed they are investigating a spa and wellness company after receiving a staggering 130 complaints from customers claiming they were defrauded out of more than RM690,000.
State police chief Datuk M. Kumar revealed that the flood of reports began to surface earlier this month, with victims alleging that they had been lured into purchasing expensive prepaid treatment packages.
Victims Left in the Lurch
The victims, some of whom paid up to RM10,000, believed they were purchasing access to health and wellness treatments redeemable at outlets nationwide. However, they were shocked to discover that the company, identified as "38 Speed Relax & Wellness," had abruptly shut down all its locations without any prior warning.
Legal Action in the Works
Kumar announced that the police are treating this case seriously, launching an investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating offenses. The financial impact on the victims is enormous, with reported losses totaling RM698,155.67.
Customer Outcry and Support
In addition, Heng Zhi Li, the head of the MCA Youth complaints and public service department, has shared that they have been inundated with requests for help from distressed customers who feel cheated.
As this story unfolds, the victims' desperate call for justice highlights the need for increased scrutiny in the wellness industry and consumer protection in Malaysia.
