The Conversational AI Boom
Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the conversational AI sector has skyrocketed, with forecasts estimating it will become a nearly $50 billion industry by 2031. Amidst this rapid expansion, Berlin-based Synthflow AI is carving out its niche, aiming to stand out in a vibrant marketplace.
Simplifying Voice AI for Enterprises
Synthflow AI, a no-code platform that debuted in 2023, empowers enterprises to create and implement tailored, white-labeled voice AI customer service agents. With over 1,000 clients and an impressive 45 million calls handled, they are quickly making a name for themselves in the industry.
Robust Compliance and Seamless Integrations
The company prides itself on its voice agents' compliance with both HIPAA and GDPR standards. Furthermore, they offer seamless compatibility with over 200 enterprise platforms, including big names like Salesforce, Twilio, and HubSpot.
The Founders’ Journey into Voice AI
Co-founder and CEO Hakob Astabatsyan, alongside CPO Albert Astabatsyan and CTO Sassun Mirzakhan-Saky, began exploring OpenAI’s ChatGPT API in early 2023. Their initial focus on text-to-text AI quickly evolved into an exciting challenge: developing a voice bot capable of real-time conversation.
"We realized that producing speech instantly, with minimal latency and managing interruptions, was far more complicated than we anticipated," Astabatsyan remarked. "This difficulty sparked our passion for tackling voice technology head-on.”
Rapid Growth and Future Plans
After an intense year of development, Synthflow launched its inaugural product in early 2024, followed by an enterprise-grade version by year’s end. The company grew 15-fold in a single year and boasts over a 90% retention rate from its enterprise clients.
"We now process 5 million calls a month, compared to just 1-2 million last year," Astabatsyan noted, highlighting the company's remarkable growth trajectory.
Funding to Fuel Expansion
Recently, Synthflow raised a substantial $20 million in Series A funding led by Accel, with additional contributions from existing investors Atlantic Labs and Singular. Astabatsyan explained that this funding will allow them to expand their team, enhance R&D efforts, and establish their first U.S. office.
Momentum in a Competitive Landscape
Luca Bocchio, a partner at Accel, has been impressed by Synthflow’s journey, particularly the founders’ proactive approach in crafting enterprise-friendly integrations. "This team is committed to deepening their technology and developing strong CRM alignments to ensure enterprise-grade compliance,” he stated.
Steering Through a Competitive Future
However, Synthflow is not without competition. The conversational AI arena is bustling, with significant players like Bret Taylor’s Sierra, who has raised $285 million, and Bland AI, which secured over $50 million. As the landscape shifts rapidly, Astabatsyan remains optimistic and grounded.
"The pace of AI development is staggering, and things can change swiftly," he acknowledged. "But we are confident—we understand our customers and have a solid product strategy for the next three to five years.”
