Introducing the Future of Electric Vehicle Charging!
SINGAPORE – Welcome to the era of rapid EV charging! The first fast chargers for electric vehicles (EVs) are now operational at open-air Housing Development Board (HDB) carparks, bringing a significant boost to the growing community of EV drivers in the Lion City.
Lightning-Fast Charging Stations Across the City!
Strategically located in bustling areas like Bedok Reservoir, Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, and Boon Lay, these state-of-the-art stations can deliver up to 100 km of range in just **10 minutes**. This is a game-changer for EV owners who need a quick top-up!
More Fast Chargers on the Horizon!
And that’s not all! In the coming six months, an additional **14 open-air carparks** are set to be equipped with these fast chargers, expanding the network across Singapore. Until now, most HDB carpark chargers were slow and best for overnight sessions.
Overcoming Challenges in Power Supply!
While fast chargers are a welcome addition, they’re not commonly found in open-air carparks due to power supply challenges. The complexity of existing underground utilities and infrastructure has made installation tricky. But determined operators are making it happen!
Charge+ Leads the Charge!
On April 16, Charge+ officially launched its first fast-charging station at Boon Lay Place Market. However, this innovative station was already operational since February. Plans are in motion for **six more stations** in key locations by mid-2025.
Shell Recharge and SP Mobility Join the Charge!
Not to be outdone, Shell Recharge and SP Mobility unveiled fast chargers at various open-air carparks on April 1, including popular spots like Block 631 Bedok Reservoir Road and Block 225 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. Meanwhile, ChargEco is set to activate fast chargers at **eight more locations** over the coming months.
Charging Made Convenient!
With fast chargers rated at **120 kW**, these can provide the same power that slower chargers take over two hours to dispense in just 10 minutes! Featured near busy eateries and amenities, these chargers aim to maximize convenience for busy drivers.
The Cost of Convenience!
While fast charging offers speed, it comes with a price. Rates range from **70 to 76.3 cents per kilowatt-hour**, while slower options are priced between 60 and 73 cents. For instance, fully charging a BYD Atto 3 may cost up to **$46.16** at the highest fast charger rate, significantly higher than the cheapest slow charger option.
An Electric Future Awaits!
With EV registrations surging—making up **33.6%** of new cars from just **18.1%**—the push for more charging infrastructure is crucial. Charge+ is committed to boosting EV adoption and has plans for every HDB carpark to have chargers by the end of **2025**.
Join the EV Revolution!
Singaporeans can look forward to a future filled with electric vehicles and enhanced charging facilities, making EV ownership as convenient as possible. Are you ready to plug into the electric revolution?
