Exciting news from Airbus! The countdown is on as the first prototype of the SIRTAP, their cutting-edge high-performance tactical uncrewed aerial system, is ready to soar into its groundbreaking phase. After a successful assembly, the aircraft is set to undergo rigorous ground testing at Airbus Defence and Space facilities in Getafe, Spain.

What's Next? Ground Tests and Maiden Flight!

Over the coming months, engineers will conduct a battery of critical evaluations focusing on structural integrity, essential systems, and software functionality. This comprehensive testing regime paves the way for the highly anticipated maiden flight, slated for the end of 2025 at Spain’s National Institute of Aerospace Technology’s Unmanned Systems Test Centre in Huelva.

A Leap Towards Certification!

Following the initial flight test campaign, which will unfold throughout 2026, Airbus aims to secure airworthiness type certification. This crucial milestone ensures that the SIRTAP meets stringent safety and performance criteria, culminating in the delivery of the first system to Spain by 2027.

Why SIRTAP Matters: Strengthening National Sovereignty!

Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of Air Power at Airbus Defence and Space, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, "SIRTAP exemplifies our agility to spearhead technological advancements in conjunction with our aerospace industry partners. Manufactured in Spain, this system will bolster national sovereignty and establish a benchmark in the global tactical unmanned aerial systems market. It’s an essential step toward building a robust European defense aerospace ecosystem."

Enhancing Military Capabilities!

In November 2023, the Spanish Ministry of Defence made a strategic move by acquiring nine SIRTAP systems, each comprising three remotely-piloted aircraft and a ground-control station. This addition of 27 drones and corresponding control stations is set to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Spanish Armed Forces. Additionally, two advanced simulators will be provided for training Spanish operators, marking a milestone in their design and architecture.

The Future of Defense: Innovative and Versatile!

With its ITAR-free design, the SIRTAP represents a bold commitment to innovation and collaboration within the national industrial landscape. It opens the door for numerous advancements, including potential naval versions and weaponry integration, further solidifying its role in the evolution of remotely-piloted vehicles.
