SINGAPORE: A significant monsoon surge affected various regions across Singapore on March 19 and 20, leading to unprecedented rainfall totals.

Jurong West emerged as the hardest hit, recording an astonishing 318mm of rain, according to the national water agency, PUB. This amount dramatically exceeds Singapore's average rainfall for March, which stands at 209.7mm.

Eastern Singapore also faced heavy rain.

The highest recorded in that area reached 298.4mm. The intense downpour resulted in localized flooding, particularly at the intersection of Mountbatten Road and Jalan Seaview. Flooding persisted for approximately two hours around 2pm on Thursday due to a combination of heavy rainfall and high tide, which overwhelmed nearby canals and roadside drains. This led to water entering a nearby property as well.

Deploying officers from its Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to assist affected residents by setting up portable barriers and utilizing pumps to remove standing water from the flooded areas. Warnings of potential flooding were broadcasted, alerting residents in various locations including the Pan-Island Expressway and the East Coast Parkway.

The continuous heavy rainfall also disrupted other areas of daily life in Singapore.

Notably, the highly anticipated 2025 Porsche Singapore Classic golf tournament was delayed due to these inclement weather conditions.

The monsoon surge is projected to continue until Friday.

With moderate to heavy rainfall expected throughout Singapore. The Meteorological Service Singapore has indicated that such weather may also affect vital operations, primarily at Changi Airport and Seletar Airport.
