Train Service Returns Following Technical Glitch

SINGAPORE – Commuters on the Punggol LRT line can breathe a sigh of relief as train services resumed at 8:10 AM on September 13, following a frustrating three-hour disruption.

The disruption was initially reported around 5:14 AM due to a failure in the newly implemented signalling control system, which caused significant operational chaos. During this downtime, trains could not leave the depot, preventing any service from commencing.

Buses and Support Measures Implemented

In an effort to assist stranded passengers, SBS Transit offered free bus services from Punggol Bus Interchange and nearby stops during the interruption. Updates were provided on social media as SBS Transit urged commuters to utilize the SBS Transit and LTA MyTransport apps for alternative arrangements.

CEO Addresses Commuters — An Apology and Assurance

SBS Transit group chief executive Jeffrey Sim released a statement on Facebook at 9:10 AM, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to commuters. He assured the public that the company is working closely with the equipment manufacturer to investigate this premature failure and prevent future incidents.

Frequent Disruptions Raise Concerns

This incident marks the third service disruption on the Punggol LRT line in just over a month, raising eyebrows among regular passengers. Previous disruptions included a power switchboard failure on August 12, which crippled the entire Sengkang-Punggol LRT services for nearly 10 hours, and another power fault on August 15 that caused a four-hour delay in service.

With multiple issues cropping up in quick succession, commuters are undoubtedly anxious about the reliability of this essential transit line.
