A Milestone Donation for a Noble Cause
In a grand celebration marking its 25th anniversary, PropNex, Singapore’s leading real estate agency, has made headlines by pledging a significant $6 million to the Community Chest. This remarkable donation is in honor of SG60 and is part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to various charitable initiatives, including support for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.
Celebration at Marina Bay Sands
The announcement was made by PropNex's executive chairman, Ismail Gafoor, during a prestigious ceremony held at the Marina Bay Sands convention center, graced by the presence of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Largest Contribution Yet!
This $6 million donation, which will be distributed over the next year, marks the largest single contribution made by PropNex to the Community Chest. Additionally, the company has pledged to continue its philanthropic efforts with an annual contribution of $1.5 million from 2025 to 2027.
A Legacy of Giving Back
Since 2013, PropNex has been a steadfast supporter of Community Chest, contributing over $10 million to aid children with special needs, at-risk youth, and low-income families. The firm’s commitment to social responsibility is further demonstrated through its support of initiatives like Hair For Hope and Food For Families.
A Culture of Volunteerism at PropNex
Gafoor emphasized the importance of embedding a culture of giving within the organization. He noted the active involvement of employees, sharing how they organized outings for children from the Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home, including memorable trips to Universal Studios.
Sustainable Philanthropy
Mr. Chew Sutat, chairman of Community Chest, commended PropNex for exemplifying sustainable philanthropy, stating, "It’s not just about dollars and cents – it’s also about time." This aligns with PropNex’s vision of fostering a community dedicated to bettering the lives of those in need.
Introducing the PropNex Foundation
In an exciting development, PropNex has launched its own foundation aimed at supporting the educational needs of underprivileged students. To kickstart this initiative, $254,000 in education grants will be awarded to 160 students in Singapore in 2025.
Inspiration Behind the Mission
Drawing inspiration from his father's challenging upbringing as a newspaper delivery man, Gafoor shared, "My dad came from nothing and became a survivor. I wanted to bring the same ethos to everyone." His commitment to charity is reflected in his new memoir, 'I Am Not Good Enough,' which was unveiled at the event.
A Heartfelt Contribution from the Author
Profits from Gafoor's memoir are set to support the STSPMF, which provides financial assistance to children from low-income families. He started the initiative with a $25,000 donation, presenting a symbolic cheque to Mr. Zakir Hussain, a trustee of the fund.
A New Leadership Chapter
In another significant announcement, Gafoor revealed he will be stepping down as CEO and transitioning to the role of executive chairman, with deputy chief executive Kelvin Fong stepping up as the new CEO, signaling a fresh chapter for PropNex.
