SINGAPORE: This Chinese New Year, health services remain a priority as a total of 1,115 general practitioner (GP) clinics will be operating at various times from January 28 to January 30, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH). In a significant initiative to support public health during the festive period, 17 of these clinics will be open 24 hours a day, ensuring access to medical care around the clock.

For those who may feel unwell amid the celebratory season, the MOH encourages the public, including children, to visit their GP or any 24-hour clinic for minor ailments. In their official media release, the ministry emphasizes the importance of making appointments or calling clinics ahead of time to reduce waiting times and ensure a smoother visit.

In case of urgent medical needs that are not classified as life-threatening, residents have the option to visit various urgent care centres, including Alexandria Hospital Urgent Care Centre (UCC), UCC @ Admiralty, and the National University Hospital's UCC @ Bukit Panjang. This is a crucial service intended to help manage light to moderate health issues during the holidays.

However, it’s vital to remember that for severe or life-threatening emergencies—such as chest pains, breathlessness, or uncontrollable bleeding—individuals should seek immediate care at their nearest hospital's accident and emergency department. The MOH stresses that those not experiencing life-threatening emergencies should refrain from calling 995 Emergency Medical Services, allowing the system to focus on genuine emergencies.
