SINGAPORE - Exciting news for cycling enthusiasts! The annual OCBC Cycle, originally set for May 3-4 at the Singapore Sports Hub, will now shift to a virtual ride format. This announcement comes following the official date of the general election, as Singaporeans prepare to vote on May 3.

OCBC Bank explained in a statement that the event's massive scale requires extensive security resources, which will be limited during the election weekend. As a result, the 17th edition of the Cycle, expected to draw around 7,000 cyclists across nine categories, had to adapt.

Why the Change?

The competition cannot be rescheduled due to a lack of adequate space at the Singapore Sports Hub on any available weekends in 2025. Thus, the decision to go virtual is aimed at ensuring participants can still enjoy the experience safely.

What’s in Store for Virtual Participants?

All participants registered for rides, including the popular 100km Virtual Ride and the Round Island Virtual Ride, will receive full refunds by the end of May 2025. Those signed up for mass rides can participate in the new virtual format at no extra cost. However, the OCBC Cycle Speedway Open Championship is officially cancelled.

Categories like the Sportive Ride (40km), Foldie Ride by Brompton (40km), The Straits Times Ride (20km), and Mighty Savers Kids Ride will transition to virtual events and must be completed by June 2, 2025.

How to Participate in the Virtual Experience?

Participants must complete their chosen ride distance in one go, either indoors or outdoors, and are required to record their rides using a fitness tracker or workout app. Submissions for ride details must be sent to the organizers by June 2.

Plus, from May 2 to 4, all participants can still pick up their event packs at the visitor center at the Sports Hub. Once they finish their virtual rides, medals will be sent out by mail.

This new virtual format allows cyclists to experience the joy of riding while ensuring everyone’s safety and well-being. Mark your calendars and get ready to pedal virtually!
