In an impressive display of academic prowess, the National University of Singapore (NUS) proudly maintains its position at 8th in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2026. Not far behind, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has climbed three spots to take the 12th position, reflecting its remarkable rise in global stature.

NUS: The Leading Light of Asia!

This year's QS rankings, showcasing 1,500 universities from 106 countries, reaffirmed NUS as the highest-ranked university in Asia, having been the trailblazer in breaking into the global top 10.

US and UK Universities Dominate the Top Spots!

The rankings are largely dominated by institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology securing the coveted first position for the 14th consecutive year. Imperial College London remains in a solid second place, while Stanford has jumped to third. Meanwhile, both the University of Oxford and Harvard University have slipped to fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Formula Behind the Rankings!

The QS rankings are meticulously crafted using nine indicators including academic and employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, and international engagement, with academic reputation being the most heavily weighted. Notably, NUS excelled in academic reputation, ranking 14th worldwide, and showed significant improvement in employer reputation, jumping 16 spots to 32nd.

NTU's rise is noteworthy, thanks to a higher employer reputation, where it soared from 92nd to 67th place. NTU President Ho Teck Hua emphasized the university's efforts to innovate, including the recent establishment of the College of Computing and Data Science.

Singapore Management University (SMU) made headlines by climbing 74 places to 511th, while Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) faced a challenging drop of 79 places to 519th.
