Exciting Developments at Yew Tee Village

Exciting developments are set to unfold as a new underground MRT station is planned near Yew Tee Village. This initiative is part of the Downtown Line (DTL) extension from Bukit Panjang to Sungei Kadut, projected to transform public transport in the area by 2035.

Significant Travel Time Reduction

Once complete, this 4km DTL extension promises to significantly reduce travel time to downtown hotspots like Chinatown by up to 20 minutes. The construction phase is slated to commence in late 2025, with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) confirming that the stations will begin operating within the ten-year timeline.

Station DE1 and Connectivity

The DTL extension will introduce a new station, codenamed DE1, situated in Sungei Kadut Avenue, strategically placed on government-owned land earmarked for future industrial development. This station will provide easy access to vital local destinations such as Yew Tee Village, the Pang Sua Fishing Deck, and the Pang Sua Park Connector through a newly built pedestrian bridge.

Improving Accessibility

To enhance accessibility, a dual two-lane vehicular bridge and roads will be constructed to link the new MRT station with Choa Chu Kang North 7 and Woodlands Road, while covered linkways and cycling paths will promote better first- and last-mile connectivity.

Interchange Station DE2

At the northern terminus, another station—codenamed DE2—will serve as an interchange in Sungei Kadut Central, connecting commuters to the North-South Line (NSL). This station will be built underground but will also connect to a new above-ground NSL station, strategically located between the existing Yew Tee and Kranji stations.

Challenges and Coordination

While construction presents unique challenges, including the need to relocate some existing industrial buildings, the LTA assures the public that most of the necessary land is already vacant. They are coordinating with the JTC Corporation to ensure a smooth transition for eight businesses with expiring leases prior to the start of construction.

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability remains a priority. An extensive environmental impact study, conducted in collaboration with nature groups, identified potential impacts on local biodiversity due to tunneling and construction activities.

Future Expansion Plans

The DTL extension will ultimately expand the network to 39 stations over a distance of 44 kilometers, significantly improving commuter choices in north-western Singapore.

Sungei Kadut's Vision for Transformation

Sungei Kadut is envisioned to undergo considerable transformation over the next few decades, with new industries emerging in agri-tech and environmental technology, while supporting its traditional timber and furniture sectors.

Communication and Updates

As construction progresses and additional details are unveiled, the LTA is committed to maintaining communication with the public, enhancing the overall efficiency of Singapore’s transport network.
