NASA Seeks Passionate Candidates for Executive Committee of Exoplanet Exploration Program – Apply Now!

NASA’s Astrophysics Division is making waves in the scientific community by issuing an exciting open call for nominations to join the Executive Committee (EC) of the Exoplanet Exploration Program Analysis Group (ExoPAG). This initiative aims to expand the committee's leadership as they gear up for groundbreaking advancements in the field of exoplanetary science.

As NASA prepares to fill several key positions, including replacing four committee members whose terms have expired, an urgent opportunity arises for scientific leaders across various disciplines. New committee appointments, which will commence in Spring 2025, will last for three years and allow selected individuals to shape the future of exoplanet exploration.

NASA's Exoplanet Exploration Program (ExEP) serves as the central hub for exoplanet research and strategies designed to achieve significant scientific milestones. The ExoPAG acts as an inclusive forum where experts from various fields, including Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Heliophysics, and Earth Science, can provide essential insights to further NASA’s objectives.

The appointed Chair of ExoPAG will also have a seat on NASA’s Astrophysics Advisory Committee (APAC), ensuring that the unique perspectives of the exoplanet community are integrated into broader astrophysics discussions. The committee’s responsibilities include gathering community feedback, overseeing scientific analyses, and fostering transparency by communicating ongoing initiatives.

Ready to Nominate? Here's How!

To propose a candidate for the ExoPAG Executive Committee, send an email to [email protected]. Ensure that your nomination includes a cover letter detailing the nominee's expertise, qualifications, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and potential contributions to the committee. Additionally, include a one-page CV highlighting relevant experience.

It’s important to note that nominations will only be accepted from scientists affiliated with U.S. institutions for the duration of their service, although there are no citizenship restrictions. NASA encourages nominations from academic institutions such as universities, colleges, or non-NASA research laboratories, with self-nominations equally valued.

Mark your calendars! The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2025, with selections expected to be announced in Spring 2025 via the ExoPAG mailing list.

This is a prime opportunity for passionate scientists to help shape the trajectory of exoplanet exploration. With the universe brimming with possibilities and new discoveries to be made, are you or someone you know ready to make a difference? Don’t miss out on the chance to influence the future of space science!
