In a shocking incident on July 1, a commuter was discovered unresponsive while holding an e-cigarette on a busy bus in Singapore.
The alarming discovery took place between 5:30 PM and 6:10 PM aboard SMRT bus service 110 traveling along the Tampines Expressway. Witnesses reported that the man appeared to be vaping throughout the trip.
"One passenger alerted the bus captain after noticing something was off," shared an eyewitness. "Upon inspection, the captain found the man bleeding and unresponsive but still clutching his vape device."
The bus captain immediately halted the journey, transferring all other passengers to a different bus while he contacted the bus company for assistance.
A disturbing video taken by a passenger shows drops of blood under the seat where the man sat, intensifying concerns about his condition.
In response to queries, SMRT Buses Deputy Managing Director Vincent Gay confirmed that the bus was stationary at a stop on the TPE towards Punggol when the incident occurred. "Our bus captain swiftly rendered assistance and stayed with the individual until paramedics arrived," Mr. Gay stated.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that the man was transported to Sengkang General Hospital for urgent medical care.
Meanwhile, Mr. Gay assured that all other passengers were safely moved to another bus to continue their journey and emphasized the importance of reporting such situations immediately.
As a reminder, the Health Sciences Authority warns that e-vaporisers contain harmful chemicals, and the use of imitation tobacco products is strictly prohibited. Offenders could face hefty fines of up to $2,000.
