Tragedy Strikes in Marsiling: Three Hospitalized After Flat Fire

SINGAPORE – A dramatic evening unfolded in Marsiling on July 30, as a fierce blaze erupted in a Housing Board flat, leaving three individuals needing urgent medical attention for smoke inhalation. They were swiftly transported to Singapore General Hospital.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) sprang into action around 5:50 PM, racing to Block 4 Marsiling Road. Flames engulfed both the living room and the bedroom of the 13th-floor unit, but thanks to the SCDF’s quick response, the fire was extinguished using a powerful water jet.

Eyewitnesses were left stunned as dark smoke poured from the windows, with chilling images circulating on social media, capturing the scene of chaos.

Initial investigations revealed that the inferno likely ignited from the battery pack of a power-assisted bicycle situated in the living room. In a crucial reminder, the SCDF urged the public to avoid leaving batteries or devices charging for extended periods, especially overnight, and to be cautious about non-original batteries which can pose a significant risk.

This fire comes just a day after another alarming incident at an HDB flat in Toa Payoh, where seven individuals, including a child and a brave firefighter, required hospitalization due to a separate fire disaster.

As Singapore grapples with these alarming incidents, it serves as a wake-up call for residents to prioritize safety at home, particularly regarding electrical devices.
