Outrage Over Lenient Sentence
The mother of a young girl, who was involved with former Mediacorp actor Ian Fang, has voiced her outrage over his 40-month prison sentence, deeming it far too lenient. She is determined to take legal action against him.
A Disturbing Relationship
The troubling relationship began when the girl was just 15 years old, and Ian, an acting teacher at a child modeling school, allegedly used his influence to draw her in. The mother, speaking to 8world, expressed her hopes that authorities would revisit the case and impose a heavier penalty, ideally including caning, to deter Ian from preying on others.
Call for Caning as a Form of Justice
"I am deeply unhappy. He absolutely should be caned — why was he not? A caning would leave a permanent mark, serving as a warning to others about his actions. As it stands, without any visible punishment, he could easily deceive someone else," the mother lamented.
Legal Complexities Surrounding the Case
According to legal experts, the absence of caning in Ian's sentence is tied to the girl's age at the time of the offenses; since she was 15, the charges fell under Section 376A(2)(b). This provision allows for a maximum of 10 years in prison, but does not include caning, under the condition that the relationship was not considered exploitative.
Allegations of Manipulation and Coercion
However, the girl's mother strongly disagrees with this assessment. She contends that Ian exploited his celebrity status to manipulate her daughter. "He brought wine to the hotel to meet my sick child, and even encouraged her to keep their encounters a secret, threatening her about jail time. He took her virginity when she was vulnerable and passed along a sexually transmitted infection," she recounted.
A Mother's Fight for Justice
Refusing to remain silent, the mother has now hired legal representation and is pursuing a lawsuit against Ian for the distress he caused her daughter. "Our aim is not to receive compensation; I want to sue him until he is bankrupt. Any damages awarded will be donated to charity," she stated, demonstrating her resolve to fight for justice.
