In a powerful address on April 24, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to track down those behind a horrific attack in Kashmir that claimed the lives of 26 individuals, asserting that India will pursue the perpetrators to 'the ends of the Earth.'
This tragic incident, which occurred in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam, marks the deadliest assault on civilians in the region since the year 2000.
Modi stated emphatically, "I say to the whole world: India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers." His remarks came just days after the attack, highlighting the government's resolve to bring justice swiftly and decisively.
The victims included 26 Indians and one Nepali, amplifying international concerns over security in the volatile region. Following the attack, India accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism and responded with significant diplomatic measures, including downgrading bilateral relations.
Amidst the rising tensions, India suspended a longstanding river-sharing agreement with Pakistan—a move Pakistan's Power Minister condemned as an act of 'water warfare.' This treaty, established in 1960 and mediated by the World Bank, has historically played a crucial role in managing water resources between the two nations, surviving multiple conflicts.
Despite India's accusations, Pakistan has vehemently denied any involvement in the Pahalgam attack.
During his speech in Bihar to inaugurate development projects, Modi observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims, emphasizing the necessity of accountability. “Whoever has carried out this attack—and those who orchestrated it—will face consequences beyond their imagination,” he declared passionately.
In a rallying cry to his people, he proclaimed, "Whatever little land these terrorists have, it’s time to reduce it to dust. The willpower of 1.4 billion Indians will break the backbone of these terrorists.”
Ending on an international note, he assured, "Terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done." This fervent commitment to justice amid escalating tensions sets the stage for a potentially pivotal moment in India-Pakistan relations.
