Desperate Search Ends in Joy

After an agonizing six-day search, 81-year-old Lau Sung Pong was miraculously found on the rooftop of a newly-constructed flat in Bidadari, Singapore.

Lost and Alone

Lau was reported missing on May 1 when he failed to return home. His daughter, Joyce, shared that her father, who suffers from dementia, had accidentally disembarked the bus two stops late.

Joyce, his primary caregiver, described her father as generally healthy but burdened by age-related kidney issues. Concerned for his well-being, she searched for Lau for two hours on foot and by car before deciding to alert the police.

Community Joins the Hunt

With the help of family members and police, a massive search operation unfolded in the Bidadari and Woodleigh areas. Even Member of Parliament Denise Phua took to social media to rally support, with her appeal receiving over 1,400 reactions.

Despite several credible sightings reported by the public, Lau remained missing until an incredible twist of fate led to his discovery.

A Stunning Discovery

On May 7, Lau was located on the rooftop of Block 227A Bartley Walk, alarmingly close to where he was last seen. His niece, Amy Hoi, noted that his dementia may have contributed to his wandering. Interestingly, Lau had a background in water tank maintenance and once owned a metal workshop.

Contractors working on the building stumbled upon the frail, slightly sunburned Lau and immediately called for an ambulance. Remarkably, he had survived several days without food.

Gratitude for the Helpers

Amy expressed that her uncle’s survival was nothing short of a miracle. "He is currently undergoing treatment due to kidney trauma caused by dehydration, but is otherwise doing well," she reported.

Joyce thanked everyone who shared Lau’s story, allowing the family to tap into a wide network of community support. "Words can never express how grateful we are for all the well wishes and tips that led to his safe return," she added.

A Happy Reunion Ahead

The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed they responded to an emergency call at the Bartley Walk location and transported Lau to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for further care.

This heartwarming tale serves as a reminder of the power of community and the miracles that can happen when people come together.
