In a stunning move that caught fans off guard, Joo Nak Young, the mayor of Gyeongju, recently labeled the legendary boy group G.O.D. as "washed up." This comment has ignited a wave of controversy, prompting a heartfelt response from one of the group's beloved members.

G.O.D., known as one of the forerunners of the K-pop scene and a massive success in South Korea's music history, was the focus of Mayor Joo's remarks during a taping for KBS-2TV’s "Immortal Songs–Gyeongju APEC Special." While reminiscing about the group, he remarked, "They’re singers from our generation, but aren’t they a bit past their prime now?" This statement did not sit well with fans or the reluctant audience members, who quickly voiced their outrage.

Taking to social media on June 9, Park Joonhyung, a member of G.O.D., addressed the controversy directly. His message was one of reassurance: "No matter what anyone says, we’re okay. This isn’t our first day doing this. I just don’t want you guys to be hurt by someone’s careless words.” His wise words encouraged fans to rise above the negativity, stating, “Don’t stress over trivial things. There are bigger things ahead.”

Following the backlash and the flood of demands for an apology on the official Gyeongju City website, Mayor Joo issued a formal response on June 10. In his apology, he clarified that he never intended to insult G.O.D. and expressed his long-standing admiration for the group. "I made the comment with fondness and appreciation for g.o.d. I’m glad to see them still active," he expressed.

With emotions still running high, this incident highlights the deep connection between artists and their devoted fans. It raises questions about respect within the industry and reminds everyone that words carry weight, especially when it comes to legends like G.O.D.
