Max Verstappen Unfazed by Gianpiero Lambiase’s Promotion at Red Bull – What Does It Mean for the Team?

2024-10-01

Max Verstappen has confidently addressed concerns surrounding the recent promotion of his longtime race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, to the position of Head of Racing at Red Bull. Despite this organizational shift, Verstappen reassured fans and media alike that their dynamic will remain intact. Lambiase will continue to fulfill his duties as Verstappen’s race engineer while assuming his new responsibilities.

This announcement comes in the wake of significant changes within the Red Bull team, particularly with the departure of Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley, who is set to become Team Principal at Sauber/Audi next year. Instead of hiring a direct replacement for Wheatley, the team has opted to redistribute his responsibilities among several existing staff members.

During the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, when questioned about the potential impact of Lambiase's expanded role, Verstappen stated, "No, it doesn't. I mean, he already did more than just being my race engineer anyway, so I think it's well-thought about and basically spreading a bit the workload. So for me, that's fine."

Verstappen's primary focus is now on regaining momentum in the championship race as the season enters its final stretch. The reigning world champion is looking to make significant strides following McLaren’s recent performance surge, which has put them atop the Constructors' Championship standings.

The highly anticipated United States Grand Prix will kick off a crucial triple-header of races as the championship heats up. When asked about the importance of the upcoming Austin race, Verstappen remarked, “I don't know if it's a make or break, but from now on, of course, we want to make steps forward. When or how it will arrive, I don't know yet. But we're just trying to get the balance back together.”

Looking ahead, Verstappen highlighted hopes for continued improvement, particularly after feeling a positive shift in performance during the recent Baku Grand Prix. “There's still a few more rounds left where I think we can improve the car, which will also help for next year,” he added.

Fans are eager to see how these internal changes and team strategies will play out on the track, especially with tensions rising among top contenders in the championship. Will Red Bull regain their footing in the competitive landscape? Only time will tell as Verstappen and Lambiase navigate the challenges ahead together!
