Massive Drug Bust in Singapore
SINGAPORE – In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) announced that approximately $1.4 million worth of drugs were confiscated during an operation in the Tengah estate on November 7. Authorities arrested three Singaporeans involved in the illicit activities, underscoring the relentless efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
Details of the Operation
During the operation, a 32-year-old man was apprehended at the void deck of a residential block located on Plantation Crescent. Simultaneously, a 44-year-old male and a 31-year-old female suspect were detained when CNB officers executed a raid on an apartment within the same building.
Seized Narcotics
The operation yielded startling quantities of narcotics. From the 32-year-old man alone, officers recovered approximately 1,027 grams of cannabis and an additional 513 grams of Ice (methamphetamine). The subsequent raid on the residential unit led to the discovery of an astounding stash that included around 3,223 grams of cannabis, 7,626 grams of heroin, 2,339 grams of Ice, 235 grams of Ecstasy, five bottles of methadone, 2,590 Erimin-5 tablets, and cash totalling $9,250.
Additional Findings
Further investigations revealed that a vehicle driven by the 44-year-old man contained an additional haul of drugs, including 95 grams of cannabis, 477 grams of heroin, 169 grams of Ice, and three more bottles of methadone.
Impact and Enforcement
The scale of the drugs seized in this operation is alarming—it is estimated that this quantity could sustain the addiction of approximately 6,200 drug users for a week. Under Singaporean law, trafficking in controlled substances is a serious offense, with harsh penalties including the mandatory death sentence for those convicted of trafficking more than 250 grams of Ice or 500 grams of cannabis.
Statements from Authorities
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Aaron Tang, director of intelligence with CNB, praised the officers' swift actions, stating, "The efforts of the CNB officers in this operation had prevented a large haul of drugs from flowing into the streets, which if not stopped, would have impacted the lives of thousands of individuals." He further emphasized the devastating effects drugs have on society, not only harming users but also wreaking havoc on their families and communities.
Ongoing Investigations and Public Appeal
As investigations continue, CNB remains committed to dismantling drug networks and ensuring that traffickers face justice. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, as collective vigilance plays a vital role in combating the drug menace in Singapore.
