A Major Vehicle Modification Bust!
In a recent operation, Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) uncovered a staggering 141 vehicles flaunting illegal modifications over just two months, as revealed on July 2.
What Were the Offenders?
Among the offending vehicles, authorities discovered modified exhaust systems, excessively tinted windows, improper license plates, and even eye-catching decorative lamps. These findings were a part of islandwide enforcement efforts aimed at curbing unsafe vehicle practices.
Know the Rules!
According to the OneMotoring website, there are strict regulations against the removal of catalytic converters and mufflers from vehicle exhausts. Additionally, any form of flashy decorative lights such as undercarriage and interior neon lights are banned.
Tinted Windows? Follow the Guidelines!
For those wishing to add tinted films to their vehicles, there's a catch! The films must be non-reflective, allowing at least 70% of light to pass through the front windscreen and side windows, and at least 25% for rear windows.
High Stakes for Illegal Modifications!
In a bid to tighten the reins, LTA reported issuing around 4,000 summonses for illegal modification offenses in 2024, compared to about 5,000 in 2023. Furthermore, 23 workshops known for offering illegal modification services faced legal actions in court from 2021 to 2024.
Serious Consequences Await!
For individuals and workshops caught modifying vehicles illegally, the stakes are high: offenders could face up to three months in jail, fines reaching $5,000, or both. And beware, penalties double for repeat offenders!
Stay Safe and Compliant!
As authorities ramp up their crackdown on illegal modifications, motorists are urged to stay informed and comply with safety regulations to avoid dire consequences. Keep your vehicle legal and on the right side of the law!
