Manchester United’s striker Rasmus Hojlund has come under fire for his disappointing international performance, with commentators suggesting that a match against lesser-known national teams like Guam or the Seychelles might be the remedy he needs to find the back of the net again.

Since his move to Manchester United for a hefty £72 million last summer, Hojlund has demonstrated flashes of brilliance, but his current form has left fans and critics alike wanting more. In this season alone, the 20-year-old has managed just two goals in 12 appearances for United and has now gone a staggering 11 games without scoring for the Danish national team, with his last goal recorded back in October 2023.

His latest outing against Spain, where Denmark lost 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League, was particularly disappointing. Hojlund received a dismal match rating of just two from Danish publication Tips Bladet, which lamented his absence from the scoring sheet, saying, “May Denmark meet Guam, the Seychelles or another small nation soon, so that Rasmus Hojlund can score the goal he is so hungry for in the national team.”

In that match, despite playing 79 minutes, he failed to contribute to any of Denmark's 10 shots on goal, prompting further concerns about his current form. With Denmark's next match looms against Serbia, Hojlund will be desperate to shake off this barren spell.

Adding further pressure is the change in management at Manchester United, as the club prepares to part ways with Erik ten Hag and welcomes new manager Ruben Amorim. As speculation builds on whether Amorim will opt for Marcus Rashford as his first-choice striker, Hojlund finds himself needing to prove his worth quickly.

The young forward has the potential to thrive at United, but unless he manages to rediscover his scoring touch soon, he may soon find himself sidelined, unable to make a significant impact in the Premier League or on the international stage. Will facing a smaller nation be the key to unlocking his goal-scoring abilities? Fans are hoping for a breakthrough sooner rather than later.
