Attention all Mac users!
If you've recently upgraded to macOS 15, you may be facing frustrating performance issues linked to Microsoft OneDrive. Reports suggest that attempting to open or save files can lead to applications freezing, making your overall experience with Apple's operating system a nightmare.
What's Going On?
The trouble arises specifically when using OneDrive to access files located on your Desktop or within your Documents folder. Users are experiencing what’s referred to as "hanging" applications, leaving them unable to proceed with their work. Microsoft has publicly acknowledged the issue and is actively investigating, although the exact cause remains unclear.
A Temporary Solution to the Rescue!
While a permanent fix is in the works, Microsoft has provided a workaround for affected users. The recommended approach involves terminating the problematic ‘OpenAndSavePanelService’ process. Here’s how to implement this temporary solution:
1. Open the Activity Monitor on your Mac.
2. Search for the ‘OpenAndSavePanelService’ process and check for unusually high CPU usage or a status indicating “not responding.”
3. If you encounter either of these issues, simply click the X button to force stop the service.
4. Once halted, restart OneDrive and save your file in an alternative location other than Desktop, Documents, or OneDrive folders.
For opening files, similar steps apply: stop the process, move the files to a different directory, and then access them from there.
Not the Only Issue!
This issue with OneDrive isn't an isolated incident. Earlier this year, users reported challenges with a persistent error message stating, “A different version of the OneDrive app is already connected to this account,” which arose from having both App Store and standalone versions of OneDrive installed.
Furthermore, Microsoft is also probing a separate issue where files seem to be missing from OneDrive, despite their presence. Users have been advised to manually search for these elusive files using Finder or Explorer. Interestingly, they also note that accessing and resaving these files can enhance their visibility on mobile devices or through OneDrive.com.
Stay tuned for updates!
As Microsoft continues to address these issues, do not let OneDrive hold you back—try those temporary fixes and keep your workflow intact!
