A New Era for JTC Corporation

In a significant leadership change, Singapore’s JTC Corporation is set to welcome Mr. Chia Song Hwee as its new chairman effective July 1, 2023. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on April 17.

Transitioning Leadership from Tan Chong Meng

Mr. Chia, who is currently the Deputy CEO at Temasek International, will step into his role as chairman-designate on May 1. He will take over from the incumbent Mr. Tan Chong Meng, who has dedicated over six years to the board, guiding JTC through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Proven Track Record

Before joining Temasek International, Mr. Chia held prestigious positions at GlobalFoundries, where he served as Chief Operating Officer, and was previously the CEO of Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing. His extensive experience also includes roles on the International Advisory Council for China’s National Financial Regulatory Administration and as a board member of the National Research Foundation.

Mr. Tan’s Legacy: Innovation and Resilience

Mr. Tan's tenure has been marked by transformative initiatives that positioned JTC as a forward-thinking industrial master planner, particularly during the pandemic. His leadership saw the development of cutting-edge estates such as the expansive 600-hectare Jurong Innovation District and the Punggol Digital District.

Achievements Under Tan’s Leadership

In addition to these strategic developments, Mr. Tan facilitated the completion of nearly one million square meters of state-of-the-art high-rise industrial spaces, including the Kranji Built Environment Hub. After stepping down from JTC, Mr. Tan will continue to serve as chairman of the National University Health System until December 2027.

Looking Ahead with Confidence

Dr. Beh Swan Gin, the permanent secretary at MTI, expressed gratitude towards Mr. Tan for his leadership, while extending a warm welcome to Mr. Chia. "We are confident that Song Hwee will continue to build on the solid foundation laid by Chong Meng, guiding JTC into an exciting future," Dr. Gin remarked.
