SINGAPORE – Commuters faced significant delays on the North-South Line on the evening of September 2, as a train fault wreaked havoc across a five-station stretch.
The operator, SMRT, took to Facebook at 8:22 PM to alert travelers to expect an additional 25 minutes of travel time between Woodlands and Yishun en route to Marina South Pier.
The disruption, lasting approximately 45 minutes, impacted passengers at Woodlands, Admiralty, Sembawang, Canberra, and Yishun stations.
By around 9 PM, services had resumed normal operations, and the free bus service that was temporarily offered between Yishun and Woodlands was subsequently halted.
According to SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai, a "train-borne signalling fault" was identified at approximately 8:05 PM. Staff members were promptly deployed to assist passengers during the disruption.
"We immediately took the affected train out of service and gradually resumed train services at 8:50 PM," Lam stated. He offered a heartfelt apology for the inconvenience and thanked riders for their patience.
This incident comes just one day after another disruption impacted the Circle Line, where a train fault affected three stations in the morning.
