Circle Line Service Changes from September to December
Attention, Singapore commuters! Get ready for some significant changes to your weekend travel plans on the Circle Line (CCL). From September 5 to December 28, services at all CCL stations will wrap up early at 11 PM every Friday and Saturday. Plus, be prepared for a delayed start at 9 AM on Saturdays and Sundays.
What’s Behind These Changes?
These adjustments are part of a crucial testing phase for the integration of new systems across the MRT line, a necessary step before the launch of CCL Stage 6 in early 2026. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT announced this on August 12, emphasizing the importance of reliability and compatibility for the future.
Mark Your Calendars: Exempt Weekends
Lucky for you, not all weekends will be affected! Plan your travels accordingly, as services will operate as usual on October 3-5, November 28-30, and December 5-7.
What’s New? A New Control System!
After six years of work, a new integrated supervisory control system was installed in July, improving the monitoring and management of power, communications, and station facilities. This revamped system is crucial for ensuring smooth operations across the upcoming stations on CCL6.
Preparing for Future Growth: CCL6 Details
CCL6 is set to introduce three new underground stations—Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward Road—completing the loop between HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations. This will significantly shorten travel times and provide quicker access to the bustling Central Business District.
Make the Most of Your Journey
The reduced operating hours will permit longer engineering periods for rigorous testing, ensuring safety and reliability once the CCL6 opens. Passengers are urged to plan ahead and consider alternative MRT lines or bus services for their journeys.
Shuttle Bus Services Available!
To ease the transition, shuttle bus services 36 and 37 will run during the late-opening hours from 5 AM to 9 AM on weekends. Shuttle 36 will connect HarbourFront and Bishan stations every 7-10 minutes, while Shuttle 37 will operate every 3-5 minutes between Bishan and Promenade stations, all at standard train fares!
Plan Ahead to Avoid Delays!
Due to the changes, allow for an extra 30 minutes of travel time. Affected stations will have notifications posted, and station staff will be readily available to assist with any queries. The LTA and SMRT appreciate your patience and understanding during these necessary adjustments.
The Future Looks Bright!
Once CCL6 opens, expect travel times to decrease by up to 10 minutes, making your journeys to Marina Bay faster and more direct. Commuters from areas like Paya Lebar and Mountbatten will particularly benefit from this improved accessibility. Get ready for a smoother ride!
