In an exciting development for aspiring accountants in Singapore, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) has committed up to S$6 million (approximately $4.4 million) to launch the Polytechnic Pathway Programme (PPP). This initiative is a game-changer for local polytechnic graduates looking to earn the prestigious Singapore Chartered Accountant Qualification (SCAQ).

Designed to enhance the pipeline of accountancy talent, the PPP is a direct response to the recommendations made by the Accountancy Workforce Review Committee. With the accountancy sector in demand, this program provides essential support to diploma holders aiming to transition into accounting roles.

Participants in the PPP will benefit from sponsorship covering their associated fees and comprehensive learning assistance for two years after they enroll in the SCAQ Foundation Programme. The best part? This opportunity is open to all local polytechnic graduates, regardless of their diploma specializations. The initiative is poised to attract students from diverse backgrounds, including business, information technology, and design.

ISCA president Teo Ser Luck emphasized the value of this enhanced support, stating, “All our diploma holders who completed the SCAQ are fully employed. This speaks volumes for both the SCAQ and the merit of polytechnic education in Singapore. We are thrilled to expand our SCAQ support to polytechnic graduates, guiding them on their journey to becoming Chartered Accountants and promoting accountancy as a viable career path.”

This launch follows the success of ISCA’s Accelerated Pathway Programme for university students and the recent initiative to broaden SCAQ access to non-accountancy diploma holders. Since its introduction in November 2023, enrollment by polytechnic graduates has soared, with over 110 currently participating in the SCAQ Foundation Programme—representing an impressive 11% of the total candidate pool.

Furthermore, to increase engagement and job placement opportunities, ISCA plans to create Campus Enterprise Hubs at six local polytechnics and universities by January 2025. These hubs are designed to foster collaboration among students and connect them with ISCA’s extensive network of over 520 employers and 3.6 million members. As part of this initiative, engagement sessions will facilitate connections between students and potential employers, ultimately aiding in internship and job placements.

The first Campus Enterprise Hub was recently inaugurated at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, paving the way for more such facilities.

Additionally, in a strategic alliance with Kaplan Higher Education Academy, ISCA has rolled out a 15-month program tailored to aspiring chartered accountants. This collaborative effort aims to expand opportunities for those pursuing the SCAQ, ensuring a steady influx of skilled professionals into the field.

With these initiatives, the ISCA is not only transforming the future of accountancy in Singapore but is also cementing the country’s place as a hub for accounting excellence in the region.
