Breaking: MACC Takes Big Action!
In a stunning development, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has secured a court order to freeze a whopping £132 million (approximately RM758.2 million) of assets tied to Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, the widow of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, along with her family in the UK.
Court Decision Unveiled!
This significant asset freeze was sanctioned by Justice Azhar Abdul Hamid of the Kuala Lumpur High Court in an ex-parte proceeding, marking a pivotal moment in a high-stakes investigation. The assets frozen include two commercial buildings valued at £55.2 million and five luxurious residences worth £77.1 million, along with a bank account associated with the Ilham Foundation.
Suspicion of Criminal Activity?
The order comes after the court satisfied itself that these assets were linked to suspected offences under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act of 2001. This raises serious concerns about the legality and sources of wealth in connection with the prominent family.
Historical Context: Legal Battles and Charges!
This is not the first time Na’imah has faced legal scrutiny. In January of the previous year, Daim himself was charged for failing to declare his assets, which encompassed a portfolio of luxury vehicles, companies, and properties across several Malaysian states. Just months later, Na’imah was also charged for not complying with similar asset declaration notices.
What’s Next?
Following Daim’s passing on November 13, 2023, the prosecution dropped the charges against him. Now, all eyes are on Na’imah as she navigates these serious allegations while the MACC continues its investigation into the vast wealth accumulated by the family.
Stay Tuned for Updates!
As the situation unfolds, more developments are expected. Malay Mail has reached out to Na’imah’s lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, for comments on this explosive situation. Will justice prevail, or is there more to this story? Stay tuned!
