Liverpool Targets In-Form Brentford Winger as Salah's Future Remains Uncertain

2024-09-30

Liverpool is reportedly eyeing Brentford's sensational winger, Bryan Mbeumo, as they prepare for a potential summer reshuffle following Mo Salah's uncertain future at Anfield. The 25-year-old winger has been in electrifying form this season, scoring five goals in just six Premier League appearances, including stunning strikes against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Last season, Mbeumo was Brentford’s second top scorer with 10 goals, despite being sidelined for nearly four months due to an ankle injury. His ability to play multiple roles across the forward line, particularly on the right wing, makes him an appealing option for Liverpool, especially since Salah is in the final year of his contract, with speculation suggesting he may leave for a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank acknowledges Mbeumo's potential to play at a higher level, praising him as a "key player" for the club. "He was our biggest miss for four months last year, even with Toney out," Frank stated. "He’s adding another layer this season with five goals in six games. He’s a top player, and I’m convinced he will play for a bigger club."

However, Liverpool isn't the only club interested in Mbeumo. Premier League rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United are also reportedly keen to secure his services. Considering Mbeumo’s contract runs until 2026, with an option for an additional year, Brentford may resist any attempts to sell him, especially as they cope with the recent departure of Ivan Toney and injuries to key players.

Salah’s potential exit may force Liverpool to pursue new attackers, not just Mbeumo. They are reportedly considering other options, including Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo and Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, as well as Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Wolfsburg's Mohamed Amoura.

In addition, concerns about Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson's future have surfaced, particularly with the club's recent acquisition of Giorgio Mamardashvili. Despite mounting interest from Bayern Munich as they search for a long-term successor to Manuel Neuer, Alisson intends to remain in Europe and maintain his position as Brazil's first-choice keeper ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

As Liverpool navigates a potential transition period, all eyes are on how they will address Salah’s future and bolster their attacking options. Will Mbeumo be the strategic addition they need, or will competition heat up with rival clubs in pursuit? Keep watching as this story develops!
