In a delightful twist that combines both flavor and nostalgia, veteran Singaporean actor Li Nanxing reminisced about his childhood during the launch of his new collaboration with Nan Yang Dao at Jurong Point. The sound of a mortar and pestle from his mother's kitchen served as his alarm, signaling the start of a culinary day filled with fragrant chili preparations.

Since 2019, Li, affectionately known as Ah Ge, has ventured into the world of gastronomy by selling dried scallop hae bee hiam, a cherished dish from his childhood that embodies his family's Peranakan heritage.

A Culinary Collaboration to Remember

To celebrate the grand opening of Nan Yang Dao's locations at Jurong Point and Jem on July 25, Li has collaborated with the eatery to bring two must-try dishes to life: Hae Bee Hiam XO Penang Char Kway Teow with Double Egg and Ah Ge Fried Bee Hoon with Tiger Prawns. Priced at $12.80 each, these exclusive offerings highlight the bold flavors of his family’s traditional chili paste.

"The hae bee hiam brings a depth of flavor and enhances the dishes in a way that’s reminiscent of home-cooked meals," Li explained, expressing his excitement over the chef’s skillful technique that ensures the iconic wok hei flavor in every bite.

A Flavorful Experience Awaits

At a recent tasting event, attendees had the opportunity to sample the vibrant dishes. With just the right smoky flavor from the wok, the char kway teow and fried bee hoon came alive, perfectly complemented by the flavorful hain bee hiam paste. Li even stepped behind the kitchen counter for an exclusive hands-on experience, displaying his passion for both food and culture.

Celebrating 40 Years of Showbiz

As he simultaneously celebrates his illustrious 40-year career in entertainment, Li is busy filming Mediacorp’s upcoming dystopian thriller, The Leftovers. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, "Forty years in this industry has taught me invaluable lessons and has shaped my approach to life and work. I've grown with every role and project."

To commemorate this milestone, Li has organized a special meet-up with fans during the Jiangnan Gourmet Autumn Tour in Shanghai on November 29, alongside actress-host Vivian Lai. This eight-day tour will feature activities like night cruises along the Huangpu River, cooking sessions with his signature dishes, and performances by artists from his management company, LNX Global.
